CLBC is administering this program, which is funded by the federal government\u2019s Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) through BC Housing.<\/p>\n<h2>About the rental benefit<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Benefits are available for <strong>individuals who are eligible for CLBC services and live in market rental housing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Market rental housing means you rent your home from a landlord, and your rent is not subsidized by government.<\/li>\n<li>The monthly benefit amount that approved applicants will receive is based on BC Housing&#8217;s calculation of their current income, rent and location. The average, monthly benefit amount recipients are receiving is $471.98.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants will be evaluated using a needs-based criteria, that prioritizes Indigenous applicants, applicants who are at risk of losing housing, applicants who are currently unhoused, applicants who are living with children, and\/or applicants who are fleeing violence.<\/li>\n<li>CLBC will select applicants based on their level of need and when their application is submitted.<\/li>\n<li>Once all benefits are filled, CLBC will hold additional applications in case a spot opens or more funding is provided to CLBC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Am I eligible?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>You are eligible if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are eligible for CLBC services<\/li>\n<li>live in market rental housing and pay rent. You could also be moving into living in a market rental. Market rental housing means you rent your home from a landlord, and your rent is not subsidized by government.<\/li>\n<li>live independently or with some supports<\/li>\n<li>spend more than 30% of your gross monthly income on your rent. Gross monthly income means the amount of money you make in a month, before taxes.<\/li>\n<li>are up to date on filling your tax return. This means that you have completed your 2024 tax return.<\/li>\n<li>live in BC and are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>You are <u>not<\/u> eligible if: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you live in a rental that is paid for or subsidized by government at any level. This includes home sharing but does\u00a0<u>not<\/u>\u00a0include <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/family-social-supports\/services-for-people-with-disabilities\/disability-assistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disability assistance\/PWD<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>you own your home. This does not include a manufactured home where the applicant pays rent for the pad (site).<\/li>\n<li>you are renting a room or property from an immediate family member (your spouse, parents, children or siblings)<\/li>\n<li>you live in private assisted living or any residence where you pay for room and board<\/li>\n<li>your landlord increases your rent because you start receiving the benefit. The benefit must be used to increase your quality of life by making your rent more affordable.<\/li>\n<li>you are an employee of CLBC.<\/li>\n<li>you are eligible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bchousing.org\/housing-assistance\/rental-assistance-programs\/SAFER\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER)<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bchousing.org\/housing-assistance\/rental-assistance-programs\/RAP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rental Assistance Program (RAP).<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Steps for applying<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Step 1: Download and complete the application package<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitylivingbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Canada-BC-Housing-application-package.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download the Canada-BC Housing application package here<\/a>. <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Note:<\/span> Each household member age 19+ must provide proof of income in your application:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Proof of income for employment:<\/strong> Three current, consecutive pay stubs or a letter from your employer (both options must include gross monthly salary\/earnings)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Proof of income for PWD:<\/strong> Income assistance cheque stub or Ministry Release of Information stating support and shelter. <a href=\"https:\/\/myselfserve.gov.bc.ca\/\">Visit My Self Serve to print your confirmation of ministry assistance.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitylivingbc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Proof-Income-Assets-Guide.pdf\">View the Proof of Income &amp; Assets Guide from BC Housing here<\/a>, for other proof of income options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you are moving into a market rental and you do not have enough information to fill out your application,<\/strong> please email <u><a href=\"mailto:clbc.housingbenefit@gov.bc.ca\">clbc.housingbenefit@gov.bc.ca<\/a><\/u>\u202f for support.
