Applications are open and there is no deadline to apply.<\/p>\n<h2>How the benefit works:<\/h2>\n<p>In November 2025, applications first opened for 50 rent supplements under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bchousing.org\/housing-assistance\/rental-assistance-programs\/CBCHB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada-BC Housing Benefit<\/a>. This program is funded by the federal government\u2019s Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) through BC Housing and administered by CLBC.<\/p>\n<p>The monthly amount varies based on your income, rent and where you live. Right now, people receiving the benefit get an average of $471.98 per month.<\/p>\n<p>Payments start once you\u2019re renting a qualifying home and paying more than 30 per cent of your income on rent.<\/p>\n<h2>Progress so far:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>47<\/strong> people are getting help right now:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>14 <\/strong>people who identify as First Nations,\u00a0M\u00e9tis,\u00a0Cree\u00a0or Inuit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>7\u00a0<\/strong>people who were close to losing their housing within 30 or 60 days.<\/li>\n<li><strong>5<\/strong>\u00a0people with children at home<\/li>\n<li><strong>2\u00a0<\/strong>people who<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>were unhoused and now\u00a0have their own home.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>person who used this benefit to flee violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If all spots are filled, we keep eligible applications on file in case a spot opens or more funding is added.<\/p>\n<h2>Who can apply:<\/h2>\n<p>You may qualify if you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitylivingbc.ca\/about-us\/frequently-asked-questions\/i-am-new-to-clbc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eligible for CLBC services<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>rent (or are moving into) a \u00a0market rental home. \u00a0This means you rent from a landlord and your rent is not subsidized by Government.<\/li>\n<li>live independently or with some supports.<\/li>\n<li>spend more than 30 per cent of your gross monthly income on your rent. This means the amount of money you make in a month, before taxes.<\/li>\n<li>have filed your 2024 tax return.<\/li>\n<li>live in B.C. and are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can apply even if you\u2019re moving into market rental housing, including if you are unhoused, in hospital, living in home share, or living with family.<\/p>\n<p>CLBC uses a needs-based approach in choosing who will receive a benefit. We will prioritize Indigenous applicants, applicants who are at risk of losing housing, applicants who are currently unhoused, applicants who are living with children, and\/or applicants who are fleeing violence.
